Steps

1. Confirm current course content and delivery format for ISSA's Cleaning Industry Training Standard (CITS) directly on issa.com, since course modules and delivery options can be updated.
2. Separately arrange OSHA 10-Hour General Industry outreach training through an OSHA-authorized trainer/provider (verify authorization status, since only OSHA-authorized trainers can issue valid completion cards).
3. Sequence training so foundational safety awareness (OSHA 10-hour: hazard recognition, PPE, HazCom, bloodborne pathogens overview) is paired with task-specific cleaning competency (CITS modules: chemical safety, equipment use, restroom care, floor care basics).
4. Track completion and card issuance for both programs per employee, since OSHA 10-hour completion cards are issued by the training provider/DOL system and must be retained as proof of training.
5. Refresh training periodically and whenever new equipment, chemicals, or procedures are introduced, rather than treating either program as a one-time onboarding checkbox.
