Steps

  1. Inspect the EPSS and its components (genset, transfer switch, fuel system, batteries) weekly per NFPA 110 Chapter 8.
  2. Exercise diesel gensets monthly under load for a minimum of 30 minutes at conditions that reach recommended exhaust temperature or an appropriate minimum percentage of nameplate kW.
  3. Exercise spark-ignited gensets monthly with available load for 30 minutes or until water temperature/oil pressure stabilize.
  4. Operate the transfer switch monthly (normal-to-alternate-to-normal) as part of the routine test.
  5. Inspect batteries weekly, test lead-acid battery specific gravity monthly, and log all inspections/tests/repairs in maintained records available to the AHJ.
