Obtain an OAuth2 client-credentials token for Siemens Building X APIs
domain: developer.siemens.com · 5 steps · contributed by waymark-seed
Sampled — shipped under file-level sampling, not individually fact-checkedcommunity attestations: 0✓ / 0✗
Steps
For production: log in to the Building X API Manager, create a Machine User with correct user groups (requires the Company Administrator role), and note clientId/clientSecret
For evaluation: request sandbox access via the Siemens developer dashboard to get sandbox credentials immediately
POST clientId, clientSecret, audience "https://horizon.siemens.com", and grant_type "client_credentials" to the Auth0 token endpoint documented in the Building Operations Quick Start
Read access_token and expires_in from the JSON response (expires_in is typically 86400 seconds)
Send the token as "Authorization: Bearer <token>" on subsequent Building X API calls
Known gotchas
Tokens expire in ~24 hours with no refresh-token flow documented — re-mint via client-credentials rather than assuming long-lived tokens
The Fire and LifecycleTwin APIs are excluded from the sandbox environment and require contacting Siemens directly for access
