Download the current ANSI/SPRI FX-1 standard ('Standard Field Test Procedure for Determining the Withdrawal Resistance of Roofing Fasteners') from spri.org — confirm the current edition, last re-canvassed/approved by ANSI in 2021
Determine the minimum number of required pull tests: typically 10 tests for up to 50,000 sq ft of roof area, plus 5 additional tests for each additional 50,000 sq ft
Conduct each pull test perpendicular to the deck at the standard's specified load rate (2.0 in/min, allowable tolerance per the standard)

FX-1 measures field withdrawal resistance of the specific deck condition tested — results from one area of the roof (e.g., sound deck) should not be assumed to apply to deteriorated or previously-penetrated deck areas elsewhere on the same roof
