Parse the rate response: extract vehicle class, rate code, total estimated cost, and inclusions (unlimited mileage, insurance).
Create a reservation by POSTing the selected rate code, renter details, flight number (if applicable for guaranteed late arrival), and loyalty program number.
Retrieve the confirmation number and cancellation policy from the response and store them for itinerary display and potential cancellation.
Known gotchas
Avis and Budget use separate brand APIs under Avis Budget Group; confirm which brand's inventory you are searching — a single search does not span both brands.
Corporate discount codes (AWD/BCD) affect eligibility for certain rate categories; passing an invalid or expired discount code returns no results rather than an error in some implementations.
The affiliate API is partner-gated; endpoint paths and schemas are not publicly documented and should be treated as provisional until confirmed from official partner documentation.
