Known gotchas

Object lock CANNOT be enabled on an existing bucket after creation; you must create with --with-lock (there is no 'mc lock' command).
--with-lock implies versioning; both are set together at creation.
Default retention set with --default applies to newly written objects unless overridden per object.
Deleting a locked/retained version requires the retention to expire (or governance bypass) plus legal hold cleared.
