Steps

  1. Confirm the condition is a perimeter joint — the void between the interior face of an exterior curtain-wall/spandrel assembly and the edge of the floor slab — distinct from an interior fire-resistive joint.
  2. Select a perimeter fire barrier (PFB) system tested to ASTM E2307 using the intermediate-scale, multi-story test apparatus (ISMA), which exposes the system to fire from two stories simultaneously.
  3. Verify the system's rating includes both the temperature-rise-based rating and the flame/hot-gas-passage rating produced by the E2307 test, and confirm both meet the project's required duration.
  4. Check that the tested system accounts for expected deflection/deformation of the curtain wall and floor assembly under fire exposure, not just a static joint condition.
  5. Keep the PFB system selection and documentation limited to firestop/PFB scope, routing glazing, spandrel-panel, and structural curtain-wall design questions to the curtain-wall discipline.
