Steps
Compile the crew roster with each individual's role (signal person, rigger, inspector) and NCCCO ID if available.
Run each person through the VCO system individually — it does not support a bulk/batch lookup, so plan for one query per person.
For riggers, note whether the card is Level I (basic hitch/inspection duties) or Level II (load-weight estimation, rigging selection, unsupervised work) since OSHA 1926 does not itself distinguish rigger levels — that distinction is NCCCO's.
For the inspector role, confirm the certification is the NCCCO Crane Inspector credential if the crew includes a person responsible for pre-lift equipment sign-off.
Record verification date/time and result for each person in the lift-plan documentation, since 1926.1432(a)(1) requires the multi-crane lift plan to be developed by a qualified person.
Known gotchas
OSHA 1926.1428 (signal person) does not require NCCCO certification specifically — an employer's own qualified evaluator can independently qualify a signal person, so a missing VCO record does not automatically mean non-compliance.
NCCCO certification is portable between employers (29 CFR 1926.1427(d)(3)), but some employer-audited programs under 1926.1427(e) are not portable — don't assume every 'certified' operator's credential transfers to your company without checking which pathway was used.
