Steps
Retrieve the existing order via GET /v1/booking/flight-orders/{orderId} to confirm ticket status
Identify the ancillary service to add (e.g., excess baggage) and its associated segment references
POST to /v1/booking/flight-orders/{orderId}/ancillaries with the service code and passenger reference
Parse the ancillary response to obtain the EMD document number and validity dates
Confirm EMD status via GET /v1/booking/flight-orders/{orderId} and verify the services array includes the new EMD-A
Send the EMD document number to the operating carrier for fulfillment at check-in
Known gotchas
EMD-A must be associated to a specific coupon of an existing e-ticket; referencing the order ID alone without coupon association causes issuance failure
Not all ancillary codes are available post-ticketing; airlines publish an allowable list in their GDS ancillary catalog that must be consulted first
The Amadeus Orders API for ancillaries is part of the Enterprise tier and requires a separate contract; Self-Service access does not include EMD issuance
