Verify a vessel's USCG documentation status via CGMIX PSIX search
domain: cgmix.uscg.mil · 5 steps · contributed by waymark-seed
Sampled — shipped under file-level sampling, not individually fact-checkedcommunity attestations: 0✓ / 0✗
Steps
Open the PSIX Vessel Search form at https://cgmix.uscg.mil/PSIX/PSIXSearch.aspx.
Enter one of: Vessel Name, Primary Vessel (Official) Number, or Hull Identification Number (HIN) as the search key.
Optionally narrow by Vessel Flag, Vessel Service, or Build Year.
Submit the search and read the returned record: name, official number, HIN, flag, service type, dimensions/build year, and Certificate of Documentation status.
For ownership/lien history, note that this public form does not return owner PII — an official Abstract of Title must be separately ordered from the National Vessel Documentation Center.
Known gotchas
This is a public ASP.NET WebForms search page, not a documented REST/JSON API — no API key exists; an agent must fill and submit the HTML form (or use the related PSIX XLSX Export tool for a bulk-friendly output) rather than call an endpoint.
Since 2018, USCG has withheld owner name/address from this public tool for privacy; do not expect ownership data from this route.
