Steps
Sign in to your Matterport account as an administrator and navigate to the API settings area described in Matterport's Getting Started with the API guide.
Generate an API key; Matterport allows up to five keys to be created for use across different applications.
Note that the key is tied to the admin user who created it — if that person leaves the organization, the key expires and must be regenerated.
Review the Matterport APIs Overview (matterport.github.io/showcase-sdk) to confirm you are using the Model API for retrieving space/scan data rather than the SDK, which is for embedding interactive viewers.
Store the key securely and use it with basic authentication as documented in Matterport's API authentication guide.
Known gotchas
API keys expire automatically when the administrator who created them leaves the organization — plan key ownership around a role account, not an individual, for long-lived restoration-industry integrations.
Matterport's API is general-purpose (not restoration-specific); there is no restoration/insurance-specific endpoint, so you must map Model API fields to your claim/job workflow yourself.
Only up to five API keys can exist at once per account, which can be a constraint if multiple internal tools each need their own key.
