Steps Install the HiveMQ Bridge Extension and edit extensions/hivemq-bridge-extension/conf/config.xml Define a bridge element with remote-broker/connection/static/host and port pointing at the peer broker Set the mqtt version to 5 (or 3) and configure clean-start, session-expiry, and keep-alive for the bridge connection Add topic entries with a filter and a mode of PUB (forward local to remote) or SUB (forward remote to local, requires MQTT5 remote) Configure loop-prevention/hop-count-limit to prevent messages from looping endlessly between the two bridged brokers
Known gotchas SUB-mode topics require the remote broker to support MQTT5, since loop-prevention relies on an MQTT5 user property (hmq-bridge-hop-count) the bridge extension always downgrades QoS 2 messages to QoS 1 when forwarding -- don't assume QoS 2 semantics survive the bridge
