Documented steps

  1. Install the CLI: `curl -fsSL railway.com/install.sh | bash` on macOS/Linux/WSL (installs to ~/.railway/bin), `brew install railway`, or `npm i -g @railway/cli` (Node 16+).
  2. Authenticate with `railway login` (browser) or `railway login --browserless` on headless/SSH machines; for CI export RAILWAY_TOKEN=<project token>.
  3. Run `railway link` first if the directory isn't bound to a project/service (railway up will otherwise prompt to create/link).
  4. From the project root run `railway up` to upload the current directory and create a new deployment; the CLI streams build and deploy logs by default.
  5. Use `railway up --detach` in CI/automation to queue the deployment and return without streaming logs.
  6. Confirm with `railway logs`, the printed app URL, or `railway status`.
