Steps

Email a brief description of your application to PDK's software integrations team to register a new API client and receive a client_id/client_secret (registration is manual, not self-serve).
Review PDK's topology model: organizations (dealer/customer hierarchy) contain systems, which map to one or more cloud nodes (geographic locations), which support connections (controllers), which support devices (doors, gates, readers, Aperio wireless locks, relay-controlled devices).
Authenticate API requests using the issued client_id/client_secret against PDK's Auth API.
Use the REST API to control door/gate access and read access-control state, since it powers PDK's own pdk.io product.
Use the Streaming API to respond to access events (e.g., credential-used, door-open) in near-real-time rather than polling.
Use PDK's webhook support to notify your application of events for downstream business automation (billing, time tracking, user-database sync).

Known gotchas

There is no public self-serve API key generation — every integration starts with a manual email registration and human review, so budget lead time before a first call is possible.
The org/system/cloud-node/connection/device hierarchy must be mapped correctly before device-level calls resolve — a device always sits under a specific cloud node, not directly under the organization.
PDK explicitly supports Aperio wireless locks and generic relay-controlled devices alongside doors/gates — don't scope an integration as if it only covers traditional keypad/gate hardware.
