Verify a New York State crane operator's Certificate of Competence status before dispatching them to a job site

Steps
Open the Crane Operator Certificate of Competence dataset page on data.ny.gov (Government-Finance category, dataset id bu6a-ty84) and review the field list: name, certificate number, class/endorsement, expiration date.
Query the Socrata SODA API at https://data.ny.gov/resource/bu6a-ty84.json using a $where or $q filter on the operator's last name or certificate number.
Add $limit and, for sustained use, a Socrata app token to avoid anonymous rate throttling on repeated lookups.
Compare the returned expiration date against today's date and confirm the endorsement class covers the crane type the operator will run.
Note this registry covers New York State outside New York City only; for work inside NYC use the separate NYC DOB License Info dataset instead.
Known gotchas
The dataset refreshes on the state's own publication schedule, not in real time; a very recently issued or revoked certificate may not appear yet.
This registry excludes New York City — operators working inside the five boroughs are licensed separately by NYC DOB, not tracked here.
