Documented steps

  1. Identify the pool TARGET with `mc admin decommission status ALIAS` (lists all pools; TARGET may be a full pool description or a `hash:<hex>` identifier).
  2. Cancel with `mc admin decommission cancel ALIAS TARGET`.
  3. Note the cancelled pool does not return to active; it must still eventually be decommissioned and removed from the deployment.
  4. To resume draining later, run `mc admin decommission start ALIAS TARGET` again against the same pool.
