Documented steps
Auth: mc alias with admin credentials and admin decommission privileges
Check which pool is draining: mc admin decommission status myminio
Cancel for the specific pool target: mc admin decommission cancel myminio https://minio-{01...04}.example.net:9000/mnt/disk{1...4}/minio
Confirm the state change with: mc admin decommission status myminio
Plan to finish the job: re-run mc admin decommission start on the same target when ready, then remove the pool from config after it completes
Official docs: https://min.io/docs/minio/linux/reference/minio-mc-admin/mc-admin-decommission.html
Known gotchas
Cancelling does NOT return the pool to active — official docs: 'Cancelling a decommissioning process does not return the pool to an active state. You must eventually complete the decommissioning process and remove the pool from the deployment.'
There is no undo path back to a healthy writable pool once decommission has started
Status values are Active / Draining / Complete / Failed / Canceled — only Complete is a safe end state for removing the pool from config
