Steps

1. Confirm which disposal pathways are actually available and permitted in the local/regional market, since published research on U.S. grease-trap-waste management indicates disposal method mix varies significantly by region (with landfilling more common in some regions and anaerobic digestion or incineration more common in others)
2. For landfill disposal, confirm the receiving landfill is permitted to accept liquid/semi-liquid dewatered GTW under its state solid-waste permit, and be aware that landfilled FOG undergoes anaerobic decay that can release methane, a greenhouse gas, prior to any landfill gas capture
3. For rendering, confirm a licensed renderer will accept grease-trap-waste-derived material specifically (as distinct from cleaner yellow grease), since brown grease from interceptors generally requires more purification and is accepted by a narrower set of renderers than yellow grease
4. For anaerobic digestion, confirm a receiving POTW or standalone digester facility accepts GTW/GTW-mixture as a high-strength co-substrate, and confirm the facility holds all required local, state, and federal permits for air emissions, solid waste (digestate), and water discharge before contracting
5. Compare pathways on both regulatory compliance and beneficial-use grounds: anaerobic digestion of GTW as a high-strength co-substrate can meaningfully increase biogas/methane production at a receiving facility, which several POTWs treat as a revenue or energy-offset opportunity rather than pure waste disposal
6. Document the selected disposal pathway and hauler/facility permit status in the facility's FOG maintenance manifest for inspection purposes
