Determine, per NNA authoritative guidance, whether a given U.S. state currently authorizes In-Person Electronic Notarization (IPEN) and/or Remote Online Notarization (RON) — including known edge cases where a law exists but is not yet operative.

Steps

1. For IPEN status, fetch nationalnotary.org/knowledge-center/in-person-electronic-notarization/what-is-ipen: IPEN is currently allowed in 46 U.S. states plus the District of Columbia; Alaska, Georgia, Hawaii, and Massachusetts do NOT allow IPEN.
2. For RON status, fetch nationalnotary.org/knowledge-center/remote-online-notary/what-is-a-remote-online-notary and read the notes beneath the current RON-law map rather than relying on a single allowed/prohibited count.
3. Flag known edge cases explicitly: California enacted RON legislation but notaries cannot perform RONs until 2030; Massachusetts has a RON law but the required training/application procedures are not yet available, so notaries currently cannot offer RON there; North Carolina's RON law has not yet been made permanent.
4. Flag states with no RON authorization at all (Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina), and states with a remote-notarization law that is explicitly NOT remote online notarization (Alabama and Connecticut have enacted remote notarization laws that are not RON).
5. Cross-check the specific state's Secretary of State or equivalent notary-commissioning authority page before finalizing a compliance determination, since NNA's summary is a secondary (industry-association) source, not the primary state statute.
