Steps
From Flex5 Desktop, go to Main Menu > Integrations > API and click Request Access, filling out the API Access Request form (approval typically takes 1-2 business days)
Review and accept the API Access Terms of Service the next time you open the API page
Click Add API Key at the bottom of the API page, enter a description, and click OK
Click Copy API Key to Clipboard and store it securely; the key inherits the permissions of the Flex user who generated it
For scoped access, create a dedicated "API Automation User" with only the needed permissions and generate the key while logged in as that user
Known gotchas
Flex Rental Solutions explicitly does not provide support for the Flex5 API even though it's used in production; you're largely on your own for troubleshooting
API keys are tied 1:1 to the generating user's permissions and update automatically if that user's access changes later — there's no independent key-level permission model
Revoked keys and locked Flex users both immediately deny API access; keys otherwise never expire on their own
