Steps
Before adding a remote-open/automation feature, confirm the operator is UL 325 (7th Edition) listed and identify which entrapment-protection devices it already has (inherent force/reversal sensing plus a photo-eye and/or contact edge).
Per UL 325 / 16 CFR 1211 as amended by the March 2024 Federal Register final rule, ensure your added remote/automated actuation cannot bypass or disable the operator's existing external entrapment-protection monitoring.
For vehicular gate operators, verify at least two independent entrapment-protection devices are present per entrapment zone in each direction of travel, per the applicable UL 325 gate class.
If your integration could issue an unattended close command, confirm the operator falls back to constant-pressure-only close when it detects a failed external entrapment-protection device, and do not override that fallback.
Cite the specific UL 325 edition/compliance status from the operator's UL listing or manufacturer data sheet in your integration's documentation rather than assuming compliance.
Known gotchas
Entrapment-protection requirements differ for residential garage door operators (16 CFR 1211) vs. vehicular gate operators (UL 325 gate classes I-IV) — don't apply one set of rules to the other.
Adding a remote-open/close feature does not exempt an integrator from UL 325 — you are responsible for not defeating factory-installed entrapment protection.
