Authenticate as the account to update
Set a profile field with: npm profile set <property> <value>, e.g. npm profile set fullname 'Ada Lovelace' or npm profile set email me@example.com
Settable properties are: email, fullname, homepage, freenode, twitter, github
Change your password interactively with: npm profile set password (prompts for current + new password and an OTP if 2FA is on)
Use --otp <code> to supply a one-time password non-interactively when 2FA is enabled

Known gotchas

The npm CLI can only set the listed properties (email, fullname, homepage, social handles) — you cannot set 2FA modes here (use npm profile enable-2fa / disable-2fa)
Requires 2FA OTP when your account has two-factor enabled; without --otp you are prompted interactively, which blocks headless/CI use
Not all properties are supported by third-party registries — npm profile set may fail or be ignored on non-npmjs.com registries
