Ensure you have a Sponsored Brands campaign and ad group created; Sponsored Brands campaigns require a portfolio and a registered brand in Brand Registry.
Upload your video asset using the Amazon Ads media upload endpoint; videos must be in MP4 or MOV format, under 500MB, 6–45 seconds in duration, and meet the minimum bitrate requirements.
Create the video creative by referencing the uploaded video asset ID via the /sb/v4/ads/brandVideo endpoint, including the landing page URL and product ASINs or store page to link to.
Set the creative type to VIDEO in the ad payload; video-only creatives do not require a custom image or headline in the same way standard Sponsored Brands ads do.
Submit the ad to the campaign and wait for moderation; Amazon reviews Sponsored Brands creatives before they go live, which can take up to 72 hours.
Monitor the ad status via GET /sb/v4/ads/list and handle PENDING_REVIEW and REJECTED states explicitly in your integration logic.
Known gotchas
Sponsored Brands video ads play without sound in most placements; do not rely on audio to convey key messaging — include captions or on-screen text to communicate the value proposition.
The video upload endpoint and the ad creation endpoint are separate API calls; you must complete the upload and receive a mediaId before referencing it in the ad creation request.
Video-only creatives use the /sb/v4/ads/brandVideo endpoint, not the generic /sb/ads endpoint; mixing up endpoints returns a schema validation error that may not clearly indicate the version mismatch.
