Steps
Add Recipe JSON-LD with the required properties: name, image, and author
Include recommended properties — datePublished, description, prepTime/cookTime/totalTime as ISO 8601 durations, recipeYield, recipeIngredient, recipeInstructions, and nutrition
Structure recipeInstructions as a list of HowToStep entries rather than one text blob for correct step rendering
Validate the markup with the Rich Results Test and resolve all flagged critical errors before publishing
Follow Google's general structured-data policies (markup must reflect visible on-page content), since policy violations can suppress the rich result independent of syntax validity
Known gotchas
Missing any of the required properties (name, image, author) disqualifies the whole page from the Recipe rich result
Technically valid JSON-LD isn't sufficient alone — general structured-data content policies (accurate ratings, no stuffing) still apply
Video-specific recipe fields only render when a genuinely matching video exists; don't add VideoObject fields speculatively
