Steps
Confirm the referral channel is configured in Personio's recruiting channel settings and note its ID
Create the application via the recruiting applications endpoint, including the job position and applicant details
Set the recruiting channel ID field on the application to the ID representing the referral source
Include the required company-identifier header alongside the bearer authorization token
Check the created application record reflects the intended channel/source
Known gotchas
The recruiting channel ID must match an existing configured channel or the request is rejected with a channel-not-found style error
A company-identifier header is required in addition to the bearer token on Personio API calls
Some accounts track "referred by" information in a custom attribute rather than the built-in recruiting channel field — confirm which field the specific company actually uses
