Enable and originate a Same-Day ACH payment via the Unit API and track it through Unit's ACH status lifecycle

Steps

1. Contact Unit to enable same-day ACH for your organization or account group — same-day ACH is disabled by default on Unit and only available for approved use cases.
2. Create an ACH payment from a Deposit Account against a Counterparty (routing number, account number, account type, name) as you would for standard ACH, applying same-day-specific options once the feature is enabled.
3. Submit the payment early enough in the day to clear the applicable same-day cutoff — check Unit's ACH guide for the current cutoff schedule, since a payment submitted after cutoff rolls onto the standard next-day ACH cycle.
4. Track the payment through Unit's ACH status values: Pending (created on Unit's ledger, still cancelable) may move to PendingReview if it exceeds a soft limit, then to Sent (processed by the ACH network — final state for success) or Rejected/Canceled; debit payments pass through an interim Clearing status before the deposit account is credited.
5. Subscribe to ACH webhook events such as payment.sent to track status changes in real time instead of polling.
6. On a Rejected status, inspect the API response/error codes — rejection occurs when a payment has insufficient funds or exceeds the account's daily ACH limits.
