Implement NACHA Same-Day ACH payout origination with correct window and cutoff selection

Steps

1. Understand the three Same-Day ACH submission windows for ODFIs (check nacha.org for current cutoff times as they may be updated): an early morning window, a midday window, and an afternoon window — each with a corresponding settlement time later that business day.
2. Select the appropriate entry class code for your payout: PPD (Prearranged Payment and Deposit) for consumer accounts, CCD (Corporate Credit or Debit) for business accounts; Same-Day ACH supports most standard entry class codes.
3. Format your NACHA ACH file with the SEC code, effective entry date set to the current business day (not a future date), and include the 'S' Same-Day flag in the Service Class Code or Company Entry Description field if required by your ODFI's submission format — confirm exact file format requirements with your ODFI.
4. Submit the ACH file to your ODFI before the applicable window cutoff time for the same-day settlement you need; files submitted after the cutoff are rolled to the next available window or next business day.
5. Same-Day ACH transactions are limited to a per-transaction dollar cap — verify the current limit on nacha.org (NACHA has updated this cap over time); transactions above the limit must use standard next-day ACH or wire.
6. Monitor for return entries using Same-Day ACH's accelerated return timing (RDFIs must return same-day ACH entries by the end of the business day following settlement per NACHA's 2025 Same-Day Processing of ACH Returns bulletin); adjust your settlement accounting to account for this shortened return window.
