Steps

  1. Put the ESP chip into flashing mode (commonly by grounding GPIO0 during boot) if flashing over serial.
  2. Flash a Tasmota binary using the Tasmota Web Installer (browser-based, Chromium-based browsers only), Tasmotizer, or esptool.py.
  3. Power on the freshly flashed device and look for its temporary Wi-Fi access point, typically named tasmota-xxxxxx-####.
  4. Connect to that AP with a phone/laptop and open the captive configuration page to enter your home Wi-Fi SSID and password.
  5. Confirm the device reboots, joins your Wi-Fi network, and is reachable at its new IP for the Tasmota web UI.
