Establish the manufacturer's listed clearances (from the unit's UL 2200 listing/install manual) for sides, rear, and top — these often govern over generic NFPA 37 minimums.
Apply NFPA 37 (2024 edition) minimum clearances from combustible walls/structures and from building openings where the manufacturer's listing doesn't specify a tighter, tested value.
Provide maintenance access clearance at service points and overhead clearance for lifting/service equipment per the manufacturer's instructions.
Confirm any reduced-clearance claim (e.g., to a non-combustible wall) is backed by actual third-party fire testing documented in the listing, not just a sales spec sheet.
