Steps
Enable the Respondus LockDown Browser LTI tool in Canvas at the account or course level using Respondus-provided LTI credentials
Within Canvas, navigate to the quiz settings and enable LockDown Browser and optionally Monitor (webcam proctoring)
Use the Respondus Integration API to GET /api/v1/exams to retrieve exam records linked to your Canvas quiz external_tool_content_id
POST to /api/v1/exams/{exam_id}/settings to configure Monitor sensitivity levels: face_detection_threshold, environment_check, and student_id_verification
After the exam window closes, GET /api/v1/exams/{exam_id}/sessions to list all sessions with their review_priority flag
Use GET /api/v1/sessions/{session_id}/events to retrieve timestamped flagged events for instructor review
Known gotchas
LockDown Browser prevents the student from accessing other applications; if the quiz requires an external reference (calculator, formula sheet), it must be embedded within Canvas
Respondus Monitor stores video on Respondus servers; data retention and deletion must be addressed in your FERPA data processing agreements
The LTI connection does not automatically sync Canvas grade passback; configure Respondus to post grades to Canvas AGS or handle grade passback separately
