Steps
Verify the test gauge kit calibration is current (annual, within tolerance) before starting
Confirm shutoff valves are closed and no downstream demand exists to properly isolate the assembly
Test the second check valve and confirm the relief valve's opening point per USC Manual test procedures
Test the first check valve for the required minimum pressure differential
Record readings, pass/fail status, and the gauge's serial number and calibration date on the test report
Submit the completed report to the water purveyor within the required reporting window
Known gotchas
A passing differential reading alone is incomplete — the relief valve must actually open, and the zone between checks must not hold static pressure at or above supply pressure
Debris or a partially closed shutoff valve during setup can produce a false-fail reading — retest the sequence before reporting a failure
Ambient temperature affects gauge accuracy; testing in near-freezing conditions without accounting for it can skew differential-pressure readings
