Steps

1. Define scope of work explicitly: erection only, erection plus dismantling, rental-only with customer erection, or full-service including inspection
2. Where engineering design is required, such as when height or configuration triggers a registered-professional-engineer design under 1926.452, specify who provides the stamped drawings and confirm they will be kept on site during erection
3. Assign inspection responsibility in writing: does the erecting contractor's competent person inspect and hand off with documentation, or does the customer's own competent person take over ongoing daily inspections after acceptance
4. Include a clear handoff/acceptance clause defining the point at which risk of loss, damage, and maintenance responsibility transfers from the rental company to the customer
5. Address damage and unauthorized-modification clauses covering liability if other trades alter the scaffold, such as removing planks or cutting ties, after handoff
6. Confirm certificate of insurance and indemnification terms match the actual scope and duration of the job
