Verified steps Use the versioned PVGIS API base URL (currently v5_3, e.g. https://re.jrc.ec.europa.eu/api/v5_3/PVcalc); the older unversioned endpoint is deprecated. Pass latitude/longitude, peak power (kWp), system loss percentage, and mounting type as query parameters. Call the endpoint via a server-side HTTP request (not client-side AJAX/CORS, which PVGIS blocks) and read back the JSON or CSV response. Extract monthly and annual estimated PV production figures from the response. Use the seriescalc tool variant instead of PVcalc if hourly/sub-annual time-series output is needed rather than monthly/annual summaries. No API key or authentication is required for use.
Known gotchas AJAX/CORS calls from a browser are explicitly disallowed by PVGIS; requests must originate server-side. The API is rate-limited to roughly 30 calls per second per IP; exceeding it returns HTTP 429. The old unversioned endpoint stopped reliably serving current data after the 2024 migration to versioned paths — always pin to a versioned path.
