Comply with Chicago's facade ordinance critical-examination cycle for a masonry building over 80 feet

Steps

1. Determine whether the building is subject to Chicago's facade ordinance (Building Code 14A-6-603.2 through .4), which generally applies to exterior walls of buildings 80 feet or taller.
2. Classify the building's facade anchorage/metal condition category (noncorrodible metal, corrosion-resistant/protected corrodible metal, or corrodible/unprotected metal) to determine the applicable critical-examination interval.
3. Schedule the critical examination (close-up hands-on inspection, minimum one drop per elevation, each drop spanning at least 24 feet) on the applicable cycle, verifying the current interval for the building's category on chicago.gov.
4. File the short-form ongoing-inspection report and/or full critical-examination report with the Department of Buildings by the current annual deadlines, confirmed on chicago.gov rather than reused from a prior year.
5. If unsafe conditions are found, notify the Department of Buildings and implement required protective measures (sidewalk sheds, netting) before continuing routine repair.
