Steps
Register an app and complete the OAuth authorization flow to get an access token
GET /materials/v1 to list all 40+ available materials, or /materials/{materialId}/v1 for one material's finishes and restrictions
GET /cart/shipping-options/v1 with a destination country (and optional zip code) to list available shipping options and transit times
Store the returned shippingOptionId for use in a later /orders/v1 order-creation call
Known gotchas
Shapeways went through a Chapter 7 bankruptcy and NYSE delisting in mid-2024; the brand and developers.shapeways.com were reacquired and relaunched by new owners (WVS/Manuevo) in late 2024, so pre-2024 account data and integrations may no longer carry over
Shapeways charges a percentage transaction fee on orders placed through the API in addition to any markup your app applies
