Determine whether the structure is an awning (framed fabric projection fully supported by the building) or a marquee (permanent roofed structure) since NYC DOB treats them as distinct filing types
For awnings, file an Alteration Type 2 (Alt-2) application through DOB NOW; installation must be performed or directly supervised by a licensed Master Sign Hanger or Master Rigger per Construction Code Sec. 28-415.1, unless exempt under 28-415.2 (signs under 75 sq ft and 25 lbs)
