Steps

  1. POST a SQL query (against the Soil Data Mart schema) as JSON to https://sdmdataaccess.sc.egov.usda.gov/Tabular/post.rest
  2. Always include a WHERE clause or JOIN condition scoping to an area of interest before running the query
  3. Request JSON (or XML) output format in the request
  4. Join mapunit → component → chorizon (and related) tables per the SDA data dictionary to get soil property values
  5. For spatial filtering, intersect against mapunit polygon geometry using SDA's documented spatial functions
