Steps
Register for a Truework verifier account and obtain API credentials from the Truework developer dashboard
Submit a verification request via the Truework REST API, supplying the employee's name, employer name, and the requesting party's permissible purpose
Truework routes the request through the fastest available method — instant database lookup, payroll connection, or employer outreach — and returns a status response
Poll the verification request status endpoint or listen for a webhook callback to determine when the verification is complete
Retrieve the completed verification report which includes employment status, start date, job title, pay rate, and pay frequency from the report endpoint
Use the annualized income value derived from pay rate and frequency for your DTI calculation, noting that Truework surfaces this calculation in the report for hourly workers
Known gotchas
Verification turnaround time varies by channel: instant database hits return in seconds, employer-outreach verifications can take up to 24 hours — design your workflow to handle asynchronous completion
Truework covers over 48 million employee records for instant verification, but employer outreach is required for employees outside the instant database; factor this into SLA commitments
Pay rate data for hourly employees requires annualization logic; Truework provides this in the report, but confirm the calculation method matches your underwriting policy
