Steps
Inspect the existing stucco for soundness: sound out the field for hollow/delaminated areas and check for underlying moisture damage to sheathing or framing
Where the existing surface is sound, prepare it (clean, roughen, or apply a bonding agent) to receive a new coat rather than removing it
Where delamination, rot, or repeated moisture intrusion is found, remove and replace back to sound substrate rather than overlaying
Confirm the new stucco thickness and mix are compatible with the existing system so the two layers cure and move together
