Determine the property's FEMA flood zone designation and Base Flood Elevation (BFE) from the FIRM/flood map before siting equipment.
In Special Flood Hazard Areas, plan to elevate the generator and its electrical components to or above BFE (e.g., raised pad, elevated platform, or wall-mounted bracket).
In coastal high-hazard Zone VE, follow the stricter rule that fill is not permitted below BFE — use elevated platform construction designed for wave-action loads instead.
