Steps

  1. Sign up for a free NPS API key via the sign-up form linked from nps.gov/subjects/developer/get-started.htm
  2. Look up 4-letter park codes via the /parks endpoint if you don't already know them
  3. Call GET https://developer.nps.gov/api/v1/alerts?parkCode=code1,code2 to fetch alerts for one or more parks in a single request
  4. Include your API key in the request as documented on the API Guides page (header-based, not just pasted into a browser URL)
  5. Parse each alert's category (e.g., Park Closure, Caution, Information, Danger), title, and description
