Steps
Determine your compliance phase by annual turnover: over RM 100M (August 1, 2024), over RM 25M (January 1, 2025), over RM 5M (July 1, 2025), over RM 1M (January 1, 2026)
Register your business on the MyInvois portal through LHDN and obtain API credentials for the developer sandbox
Generate the invoice in the required format (UBL 2.1 XML or JSON) conforming to the LHDN MyInvois schema
Submit the invoice to the MyInvois API for real-time validation and signing by LHDN before delivery to the buyer
Retrieve the signed invoice and validated QR code from the API response and attach them to the document sent to the buyer
Known gotchas
LHDN must validate and digitally stamp invoices in real time before they are legally valid — you cannot transmit invoices directly to buyers without this step
Each phase has a 6-month grace period during which penalties are not enforced, but compliance is expected from the phase start date
The exemption threshold was raised to RM 1,000,000 annual turnover from January 1, 2026; businesses below this threshold are currently exempt
