Steps

  1. Confirm which classic resources your subscription still uses by reviewing the retirement table at learn.microsoft.com/azure/azure-resource-manager/management/asm-retirement
  2. Note that Azure classic VMs were retired September 6, 2023 — verify none remain running
  3. Plan migration of the remaining classic-resource bundle (Classic Storage, Classic Virtual Network, Classic Application Gateway, Cloud Services (classic), App Service Environment v1/v2, API Management stv1, and others) off their listed "Aug 2024" retirement date
  4. Convert any automation or scripts using classic co-administrator roles to Azure RBAC role assignments, since classic administrators are retired as part of this bundle
  5. Re-provision equivalent ARM resources for each classic resource individually, since this is roughly 16 separate retirements bundled under one program, not a single cutover
