Validate a GTFS-Realtime feed with MobilityData's GTFS Realtime Validator

Steps

  1. Get the validator from github.com/MobilityData/gtfs-realtime-validator (Java-based, ships as a library plus a webapp for URL-based checks)
  2. Supply both the static GTFS feed and the GTFS-Realtime feed URL — many realtime rules require cross-referencing against the static schedule
  3. Run the webapp (or batch mode) to validate TripUpdates, VehiclePositions, and Alerts against the protobuf schema and best-practices rules
  4. Review flagged issues such as stale timestamps, missing required fields, or trip/stop IDs that don't resolve against the static feed
  5. Re-run validation on a recurring schedule since realtime feeds can regress even when the paired static feed doesn't change
