Documented steps Run `podman kube play <file.yml>` (also accepts - for stdin or a URL) to create containers, pods, and volumes from the Kubernetes YAML. Tear down and recreate from the same file with --replace, or just tear down with --down. Supported kinds include Pod, Deployment, PersistentVolumeClaim, ConfigMap, Secret, DaemonSet, and Job. Adapt persistent volume claims to named Podman volumes and hostPath to bind mounts automatically. Enable GPU/devices via a limits section such as nvidia.com/gpu in the YAML.
Known gotchas Default restart policy is always (override with restartPolicy). Deploying secrets creates a Podman named secret from the YAML base64 data. On-the-fly image building from a local directory is not available for remote clients; existing local images are not rebuilt unless --build is given. image-type volumes (read-only whole image) are rootful only. podman play kube is an alias; podman kube down stops/removes the same pods. Init containers are created with type once by default.
