Steps
Use the public Community Care Facility Search at ccld.dss.ca.gov/carefacilitysearch to look up a facility by name, license number, or location
Note this is an HTML search tool with per-facility result pages (e.g., /carefacilitysearch/?Rewrite=FacDetail/{license_number}), not a documented public API/JSON endpoint
Cross-reference against the CDSS Community Care Licensing Division Data Hub for aggregate facility/performance data and reports
For historical inspection reports, note full reports are generally available from April 2015 onward
Confirm the facility currently holds an active license, since closed/revoked facilities without an active or pending license drop out of standard search results
Known gotchas
There is no published, documented public API for this data — any programmatic access requires parsing the HTML search/result pages, which can break silently if the state changes page structure
Facilities that have fully closed or had licenses revoked and finalized will not appear in standard searches, so 'not found' does not necessarily mean 'never licensed'
