Steps
Confirm which CEU threshold applies to your credential (commonly 30 CEUs for Core/BA-P; 24 CEUs for most HEP certifications)
Log CEU-eligible activities, generally awarded at 1 CEU per hour of qualifying participation, throughout the active 3-year cycle
Use only CEUs earned within the current cycle; CEUs expire 3 years from the date earned
Submit CEU documentation and the renewal application at least 30 days before certification expiration
If the CEU threshold isn't met in time, retake the applicable recertification exam before expiration
Known gotchas
CEU documentation submitted inside the 30-day window before expiration risks not being processed in time
CEU thresholds differ by certification type (e.g., Retrofit Installer requires 30 CEUs though most HEP certs require 24); confirm the number for your specific credential
A lapsed certification generally cannot be renewed via CEUs alone and may require re-examination
