Complete the SBA vendor onboarding process by attending a required onboarding session; receive your Partner ID, Location ID, Vendor Software Name, and Software Vendor ID for test environment access
Review the SBA ELend API documentation at catweb.sba.gov/apidocs/elend.cfm — ELend is the current interface replacing the legacy ETRAN for new integrations
Authenticate using the credentials issued during onboarding and construct an ELend loan submission request conforming to the SBA_ETran XSD schema (version 9.2, published September 2025)
Submit the loan application data (borrower information, loan amount, use of proceeds, lender information) via the loan creation web service method
Use the getLoan or checkStatus method to poll for SBA guaranty approval status and retrieve the SBA loan number upon approval
Implement the 1502 reporting web service calls as required to report monthly loan status to the SBA post-disbursement
Known gotchas
ETRAN is deprecated for new integrations; new development should target the ELend interface — check the API documentation at catweb.sba.gov to confirm which methods are current versus deprecated
Vendor access requires formal SBA approval and an onboarding session; there is no self-service sandbox registration — account for SBA onboarding lead time in your project schedule
The SBA_ETran XSD is versioned; ensure your integration validates against the current schema version (9.2 as of late 2025) to avoid rejection at the SBA gateway
