Steps

  1. Go to Alerts & IRM > Alert rules > New alert rule and enter a name (this becomes the alertname label on every fired alert instance)
  2. Define the query against your data source and add a Threshold condition, e.g. IS ABOVE 90, marked as the alert condition
  3. Select or create an evaluation group with an interval, and set a pending period the breach must persist before moving from Pending to Firing
  4. Configure No Data and Error handling: Set No Data/Error state, Set Alerting state, Set Normal state, or Keep last state
  5. Pick a Default contact point (email, Slack, webhook, PagerDuty, etc.) or route through notification policies in Advanced mode
  6. Save the rule and use Contact points > Test to verify the notification is delivered
