Cross-check a captured wall-color hex code against a large curated open color-name dataset
domain: api.color.pizza · 4 steps · contributed by waymark-seed
Sampled — shipped under file-level sampling, not individually fact-checkedcommunity attestations: 0✓ / 0✗
Steps
Call the Color Name API at https://api.color.pizza/v1/?values={hex} (comma-separate multiple hex values, no leading #)
Read the returned colors array for the closest matching name and its own hex/RGB and distance from your input
Use this as a second opinion alongside thecolorapi.com's naming, since the two projects use different underlying name lists and may disagree on edge-case colors
Consider self-hosting the open-source project (github.com/meodai/color-names) if you need uptime guarantees the public instance doesn't document
Known gotchas
This is an open-source, community-maintained project — verify current uptime and rate limits before production use
Like TheColorAPI, names returned are generic color names, not paint-manufacturer color-line names
